About us

Welcome to Caxton 511 Masonic Lodge!
Our story began in 1921, but our lodge number goes way back to 1774, when the original Lodge 511 was founded in 1774, in Ballycumber, County Offaly. That first lodge was dissolved in 1814, and the number stayed dormant for over a century. Then, in 1921, a group of printers in Dublin decided to revive the number 511 under the name "Caxton."
Named after William Caxton, the first Englishman to bring a printing press to England in 1476, our lodge initially had strong ties to the printing profession. While our roots are in printing, today, we welcome members from all walks of life—office workers, scientists, musicians, and more.
Over the years, Caxton Lodge 511 has grown to become one of the most active lodges in Dublin. We're proud of our charitable work, supporting both Masonic and non-Masonic causes, including The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, and the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless People.
Becoming a Member
Freemasonry brings men together as equals, no matter their religious background, political views, profession, or social status. It's about learning and growing together, using the tools of the operative masons, like the square and compass, to teach us deeper life lessons and values.
You don't need an invitation or even to know a Mason to join us.
In fact, many of our members simply walked in off the street and asked to join!

Our Masonic Calendar
Lodge meetings are our time to come together, discuss what's happening in the Lodge, and handle important matters. While we do follow certain traditions, much of our meetings involve reviewing minutes, going through correspondence, and deciding how to best support the various charities we are involved with.
We usually meet on the third Friday every month, except in June, July, and August.
Our meetings take place at Freemasons Hall in Molesworth Street, Dublin.
